Abstract

New Skills for Early Age Treatments

by Bussu Simona

In diagnosing pediatric malocclusions, the orthodontist continuously draws on established knowledge. After the diagnostic pathway, therapeutic decisions are also based on skills: these skills act as a bridge between diagnostic knowledge and practical clinical applications. Skills in orthodontic practice also result strongly influenced by the tools that can be used and thus by technological development. In recent years, aligner therapies in pediatric age have largely attracted the attention of clinicians. A new systematics in which aligners are combined with myofunctional devices will be illustrated: this combination allows dentition and musculature to be worked on at the same time. The purpose of this use at an early age is to be able to recreate neuromuscular balance so that the child can continue with dysfunction-protected growth. The pediatric aligners used in this systematics have unique and innovative features that will be illustrated in clinical cases of children in deciduous and early mixed dentition.
