Abstract

Interdisciplinary Therapy in Modern Orthodontics

by Rosso Roberto and Bauducco Elisabetta

The report focuses on the presentation of an extensive survey of Italian orthodontists, in collaboration with SIDO, regarding the importance of interdisciplinary therapy in modern orthodontics and the role of speech therapy as a key element in most clinical situations of developmental patients. The research also offers a cross-section of the orthodontic profession in terms of patients' ages, types of equipment, and the need for speech therapy treatments. With regard to the relationship between orthodontists and speech pathologists, the survey also delves into orientations, attitudes, and difficulties with the aim of opening a constructive discussion among professionals. The objectives of the course will be as follows: 1. Analyze the opinions of the orthodontic community concerning the importance of speech therapies. 2. Assess the importance of a systemic approach to the patient through the joint and synergistic action of the speech therapist and orthodontist. 3. Recognize and resolve possible obstacles in a logic of greater collaboration in the relationship between the orthodontist and speech therapist.
