The Ortho-Pedodontic Team in Growth Control

The most recent international guidelines of pediatric dentistry highlight the importance of early monitoring of the developing dentition and occlusion of pediatric patients since the evaluation of the eruption of the teeth and the development of the deciduous and then permanent dentition is necessary for the maintenance of general well-being of the pediatric patient. The first thousand days of life are a key period for disease prevention in adulthood. The pediatric orthodontic team must know how to read the characteristics of the deciduous dentition and semiotics is of fundamental importance for choosing the ideal timing for effective and efficient orthodontic treatments. There are malocclusions that must be treated as soon as they are diagnosed and others that must not be treated immediately but the parents must be informed. Therefore, both from an early age it may be necessary to intervene with interceptive orthodontic treatments aimed at rebalancing the bone bases and promoting correct growth.
